Description:

Schoolreaders Volunteer – Help Change a Child’s Future

Just one hour of your time each week could transform a child’s reading ability and confidence. By volunteering with Schoolreaders, you can help children unlock the world of books—opening doors to knowledge, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Who Can Volunteer?  If you:

Have a good understanding of English
Enjoy spending time with children
Can spare a little time each week

…then you could become a Schoolreader! Our volunteers come from all walks of life, aged 18 to 92, and all share a passion for helping children succeed.

What’s Involved?

Volunteer once a week for at least 1 hour during term time
Commit to supporting a school for one academic year
Listen to children read—typically one-to-one sessions lasting around 10 minutes
Work with a range of pupils, or the same children each week

Sessions take place in schools during normal hours, at a time that suits both you and the school.

Flexible and Rewarding

Holiday requests during term time are usually accommodated
Many volunteers choose to give more time or attend multiple days
See first-hand the progress, confidence, and enjoyment you help create

Training and Support  You’ll receive:

Guidance from the school and safeguarding training
A mandatory online reading support course
Access to volunteer resources and best practice materials

Safety Requirements
All volunteers must complete an Enhanced DBS check, arranged by the school before starting.

You will be required to have a DBS check which will be submitted by ourselves and you will be reimbursed with vehicle travel expenses.
