Academy Community Council Member

About the Role
We are seeking Community Council Members with an interest in education and community value who want to make a real difference to the life opportunities of children and young people.
As a Community Council Member (CCM), you will help set the strategic direction of the academy, working to improve outcomes and opportunities for all students. You do not need previous experience in education — a commitment to young people, community, and shared values is what matters most.

What You’ll Be Involved In
You will work alongside other Community Council Members, the Headteacher, and academy leadership team to:
Contribute to strategic discussions and academy development plans
Strengthen links between the academy and its local community
Act as a leader and role model
Capture and represent the voice of stakeholders and the community
Ensure children’s safeguarding and wellbeing are always prioritised
Key Responsibilities
Community Council Members will:
Follow the ACC Code of Conduct, Nolan Principles of Public Life, and Co‑op values
Support safeguarding and student wellbeing at all times
Work as part of a team on strategic priorities
Embed Co‑op values and Ways of Being into academy culture
Visit the academy to meet staff and pupils and understand day‑to‑day practice
Monitor behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, and inclusion
Support strong parental and community engagement
Highlight community challenges and issues to the Trust Board
Monitor the experience of vulnerable groups, including:
Pupils with Special Educational Needs
Pupils eligible for Pupil Premium
Identify and communicate key strategic risks
Support careers education and links with local employers
Promote equality, inclusion, and fairness
Act as a positive ambassador for the academy
Undertake induction training and ongoing development
Prepare for and attend meetings, reading papers in advance
Time Commitment
One meeting and one school visit per term
Total of three meetings and three visits per year
Time to take an active role between meetings
About Academy Community Councils
Academy Community Councils (ACCs) are the local governance layer of Co‑op Academies Trust and operate as committees of the Trust Board. Their role is vital in ensuring community voices are heard and shared at Trust level.
