Description:

About the Role
Stoke on Trent College is the largest provider of further education in Stoke and North Staffordshire, offering a wide range of pathways including study programmes for 16–18 year olds, adult courses (19+), apprenticeships, and higher-level courses. The College plays a vital role in supporting social mobility, developing skills, and strengthening the local economy, while making a positive impact on students’ lives and opportunities. We are currently seeking new Governors to join the College Corporation (Governing Body) to help guide the organisation as it continues its successful growth and transformation.

What You'll Do
As a Governor, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the College, ensuring that its vision, values, and policies are appropriate and effectively delivered. You will work alongside the Executive Leadership Team, focusing on strategy and acting as part of the decision-making body. This role involves supporting the College’s mission to ensure learners are “Skills Ready, Future Ready,” while helping to strengthen partnerships, support growth, and maintain high standards across the organisation.

Skills and Attributes
We are keen to attract individuals from a range of professional backgrounds. At present, we are particularly interested in those with experience in finance (ideally qualified accountants) and curriculum and quality, including backgrounds in schools, academies, training providers, or other educational settings. Experience or understanding of organisational or cultural transformation is also welcomed. Previous Governor experience is not required.

Benefits to You
As a Governor, you will work with a team of ambitious and aspirational individuals and gain insight into strategic leadership within a successful and growing organisation. You will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on students, local communities, and the wider economy while contributing to the continued success and reputation of the College.

Training and Expenses
You will benefit from a well-supported induction and training programme to help you succeed in the role.

About the Organisation
Stoke on Trent College is graded “Good” by Ofsted and has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, with growth in student numbers, enhanced reputation, and strong financial health. Through Skills Hubs, Specialist Academies, and partnerships with universities and the Institute of Technology, the College is focused on meeting regional workforce demand and supporting progression opportunities.

Key Dates
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 26 February 2025. Final interviews will take place at the College between early March and mid-March.

You will be required to have a DBS check which will be submitted by ourselves and you will be reimbursed with vehicle travel expenses.
