About the Role
As part of the CLaY: Communities, Libraries and You Project, Stoke-on-Trent Libraries is recruiting volunteers to support Chess Groups in local libraries, promoting adult wellbeing through social connection and shared activity. These groups provide a welcoming space where people can play chess, learn new skills and meet others in their community.
What You'll Do
You will welcome new members to the group and help create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. The role involves sharing your knowledge of chess, helping people learn and develop their skills, encouraging participation and supporting the smooth running of sessions. You may also help raise awareness of the group within the local community.
Skills and Attributes
You should be friendly, approachable and confident interacting with people from a range of backgrounds. Good knowledge of chess is essential, along with patience, good listening skills and a willingness to help others learn. Creativity, initiative and a supportive attitude are also important.

Training and Support
All resources, materials and equipment will be provided. Volunteers will receive an induction, ongoing support and free tea and coffee during sessions.
Commitment
Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of 2 hours per week. Opportunities are available within libraries across Stoke-on-Trent, with flexibility depending on the needs of the groups and your availability.
