About the Role
As part of the CLaY: Communities, Libraries and You project, Stoke-on-Trent Libraries are recruiting volunteers to support Local History Groups based in libraries, with a focus on adult wellbeing and community connection. This role involves helping to set up and support welcoming, inclusive groups where people can explore and share local history.

What You'll Do
You will support the running of local history groups by welcoming new members and helping them feel included. You will share local history knowledge where possible and support others to learn, while encouraging participation and engagement. The role also involves helping promote the groups within local communities and contributing to a friendly, social environment.

Skills and Attributes
You should be friendly, approachable and confident engaging with others. A warm and caring attitude is important, along with patience, empathy and the ability to listen. An interest in local history or related subjects is desirable, along with the ability to use initiative and creativity.

Benefits to You
This role offers the opportunity to meet new people, build connections and support wellbeing in the local community. You will be part of a welcoming and supportive environment and gain experience contributing to community-based activities.

Training and Support
You will receive an induction along with guidance and ongoing support. Resources, materials and equipment for group activities are provided, and free tea and coffee are available during sessions.

Commitment
Volunteers are asked to commit around 2 hours per week, with flexibility depending on availability.

If you feel you could support Stoke-on-Trent Libraries to set up and run Local History Groups, we would love to hear from you.
