About the Role
We are looking for Group Facilitator Volunteers to support activities for people affected by dementia across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Our groups provide a welcoming and supportive space where people can take part in activities, socialise, and access support and information. Sessions are delivered in a range of locations, including Fenton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Werrington, and Longton. We run two main programmes—one for carers and one for people recently diagnosed with dementia—with around eight programmes per year.
What You'll Do
As a volunteer, you will help with the coordination and delivery of group sessions. This includes welcoming attendees, keeping records of attendance, and planning and facilitating agreed activities. You will support with setting up the venue and tidying away after the session, as well as encouraging participants to take part in activities. You may also liaise with staff where needed, including around cash handling and recording, and refer attendees for further support where appropriate. While you will usually work as part of a team, there may be occasions where you facilitate sessions independently.
Skills and Attributes
You should have good verbal communication and facilitation skills, along with confidence and enthusiasm. A willingness to meet new people and work as part of a team is important. An awareness of dementia, or a willingness to learn about its impact, is essential, as well as the ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion in all interactions.
Benefits to You
This is an opportunity to gain experience supporting people affected by dementia while being part of a supportive and community-focused environment. You will develop your communication, facilitation, and teamwork skills while helping to deliver meaningful activities that make a difference.
Training and Expenses
Training and support will be provided to help you feel confident in the role.
Hours
Sessions run at various times and locations across the area. Volunteers are not expected to attend every session, and flexibility is available depending on your availability. Minimum age is 18.
