Description:

 Volunteer with Newcastle Community Transport

Volunteer Administration Assistant
Would you like to support your local community and get involved with a long‑standing local charity?
Newcastle Community Transport is celebrating 50 years in 2024, supporting isolated groups and individuals by providing low‑cost, secure, friendly transport for able‑bodied and less‑able adults living in Newcastle‑under‑Lyme and surrounding areas.
Our service helps people who don’t have access to their own vehicle or who find public transport difficult. Journeys often include:

Health‑related appointments
Social activities
Visiting friends and family
Attending groups that support social inclusion and ongoing health needs

To keep costs low, most of our team work from home, with volunteers only attending in person when driving minibuses.

Volunteer Administration Assistant Role
We’re looking for a Volunteer Administration Assistant to help us move the organisation forward and remain fit for purpose, so we can continue supporting our vulnerable customers well into the 21st century.
What You’ll Do

Support the Trustees with a variety of admin tasks
Deputise for the Transport Co‑ordinator during holidays (with training and support)
Use a computer to input data and manage emails
Use the AA autoroute to plan routes and produce journey estimates

 Time Commitment

Flexible hours to suit you
A few hours a day
We particularly need volunteers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
Ideal times: 9:30am – 11:30am
Give as much or as little time as you can

Volunteering from home can fit around your home life, personal needs, and commitments.

 What You’ll Need

Computer literacy (familiarity with Microsoft packages)
Good communication skills — most of the team work remotely
An organised and methodical approach
Ability to prioritise tasks
A patient and friendly phone manner
Willingness to ask for help when needed

 What You’ll Gain

A sense of connection with your local community
New skills, experience, and increased confidence
Social interaction with partners, funders, and customers
Opportunities to attend team meetings
The chance to grow into the role and learn more about the charity and its work
Control over your own time

If you’d like to use your skills to help others stay connected, attend appointments, and remain socially included, we’d love to hear from you.

You will be required to have a DBS check which will be submitted by ourselves and you will be reimbursed with vehicle travel expenses.
