About the Role
This role involves supporting the running of weekly support groups for the LGBTQ+ community across Staffordshire. The group is open to anyone aged 18 and over and provides a safe and welcoming space in either Stafford or Lichfield for individuals to connect and socialise.
What You'll Do
As a volunteer, you will help facilitate group sessions that are primarily social in nature, while being prepared for conversations that may include sensitive topics such as homophobia, mental health challenges, and difficult personal experiences. You will support participants in a respectful and inclusive way, helping to create a positive and supportive environment. For initial sessions, you will work closely with staff who will attend with you, helping guide discussions and offering feedback afterwards.
Skills and Attributes
You should be approachable, empathetic, and able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people. A willingness to listen and support others in a non-judgemental way is essential. The ability to handle sensitive topics with care and respect is important, alongside a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive space.

Training and Expenses
Full training and support will be provided, including guidance from trained counsellors on how to manage difficult conversations. You will have access to safeguarding policies and volunteer guidance materials. Staff will be present for initial sessions, and ongoing support will always be available.
