About the Role
Reaching CIC is a non-profit organisation providing free and paid services to adults experiencing material and emotional hardship as a result of physical, mental, and learning disabilities. We deliver outreach, group, and telephone support to improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and enhance living standards. We are looking for volunteers to support our group sessions and help us deliver high-quality, evidence-based services to vulnerable adults.
What You'll Do
As a volunteer, you will assist with the preparation and delivery of group sessions, including planning activities and themes. You may support telephone communication with service users to encourage attendance, welcome individuals into group settings, and prepare simple beverages. The role involves actively participating in sessions, managing communication, listening to service users, and signposting where appropriate. You will also record important information and contribute as part of a team committed to supporting vulnerable adults.
Skills and Attributes
We are looking for individuals with strong communication skills and a compassionate, empathetic approach. You should be able to support and guide others in a non-judgemental way. Experience working with vulnerable groups is desirable, although lived experience is valued and not essential. Reliability, commitment, a willingness to reflect and learn, and basic IT skills (including Microsoft) are beneficial. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over.
Benefits to You
You will become part of a dedicated and forward-thinking team focused on delivering quality support. Your contribution will be valued, and you will have the opportunity to develop your skills with the support of a mentor through regular supervision. You will also have access to the same training opportunities as staff and be encouraged to continue your personal and professional development.
Training and Expenses
You will receive ongoing support, mentoring, and access to training. An expenses policy is in place to ensure you are not out of pocket for any volunteering-related costs.
Sessions
Sessions take place at the following times and locations: Tuesday from 10am to 12pm at The Glost House (Longton); Wednesday from 10am to 12pm at The Green Tree House Food Club & Tea Room (Biddulph) and from 2pm to 4pm at Foxlowe Arts Centre (Leek); Thursday from 10am to 12pm at Brampton Museum (Newcastle) and from 2pm to 4pm at LongRest Boardgame Bar and Café (Hanley).
