Learning Support Assistant

Purpose of the Role
To support the Heritage and Learning Manager with educational visits and activities, ensuring every visitor enjoys an excellent and informative experience, and to act as an ambassador for Re-Form Heritage.


Main Tasks
Supporting Educational Activities

Assist with setting up and clearing away for educational visits and activities
Support the delivery of education provision for all age groups
Help deliver the agreed timetable of visits, adapting flexibly to the needs of visiting groups
Help and/or lead creative hands-on sessions, including clay activities

Engaging with Visitors

Meet and welcome educational groups on arrival
Explain the layout of the site and available facilities
Support visiting groups throughout their time on site
Collect formal and informal feedback from group leaders

 

Educational visits cover a wide age range.  Most visits are from Key Stages 1 and 2 (ages 5–11), with additional visits from:

Pre-school children (under 5s)
Key Stages 3 and 4 (ages 11–16)
Colleges and universities

 

Person Specification
Volunteers should have:

The ability to communicate with school-aged children of differing abilities
An interest in working with young people and school groups
Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new skills
An interest in learning about Middleport Pottery and the pottery industry
The ability to lead and direct groups of children
The ability to work using their own initiative
A logical approach to tasks and responsibilities
An awareness of the importance of safeguarding procedures

 

Training Provision
Training provided will include:

Volunteer induction and introductions to staff and fellow volunteers
Heritage training covering Middleport Pottery and heritage areas
Role shadowing with experienced Learning Team volunteers
Guidance on education programmes
Access to Volunteer Resource Information booklets and relevant documents
Two-way radio training
Health and Safety training
Safeguarding training

Ongoing training will be provided as required.


Location and Hours
Middleport Pottery
Heritage areas open 10am–4pm, seven days a week

Educational visits typically take place Monday to Friday
Some activities may take place during evenings or weekends

You will be required to have a DBS check which will be submitted by ourselves and you will be reimbursed with vehicle travel expenses.
