Braille Class Support
SSLA (Silver Volunteer Quality Standard Award Holder)
SSLA has achieved the SILVER Volunteer Quality Standard Award through VAST, reflecting our commitment to good practice and volunteer support.
We are looking for a friendly and approachable volunteer to support our Braille Class, which takes place every Monday at our offices on Albion Street, Hanley.
No previous knowledge of braille is required — you’re very welcome to learn some braille during the sessions if you’d like.

 

What You’ll Do

Set up the room before the class
Greet attendees and help people feel welcome
Make drinks
Provide some guiding support where needed
Help pack up at the end of the class


Skills & Qualities 

We’re Looking For Friendly, approachable, and patient
Empathetic with good listening and communication skills
Reliable and committed
Motivated, enthusiastic, and positive
Willing to attend training and required meetings
Commitment to behaving professionally and reflecting SSLA’s values


Time Commitment

Mondays, 10:00am – approximately 12:15pm


Expenses

Volunteers are not paid for their time
Travel and agreed out‑of‑pocket expenses can be reimbursed

 

Additional Information

An enhanced DBS check is required
Two references will be needed before starting the role

You will be required to have a DBS check which will be submitted by ourselves and you will be reimbursed with vehicle travel expenses.
