About the Role
Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the housekeeping team at Dougie Mac Hospice, helping ensure services run efficiently. Without volunteers, the hospice would not be able to continue providing essential care and support to patients and families in the community. You will work under the supervision of the Facilities Manager – Soft Services.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will assist with housekeeping duties across the hospice. This includes cleaning patient rooms, medical areas, offices, and waiting areas using appropriate cleaning materials and disinfectants. You will help mop, dust, polish, vacuum, and sweep floors, as well as clean mirrors, windows, and sanitary facilities such as sinks, baths, showers, and toilets. You may operate cleaning equipment, handle and dispose of waste safely, clean mattresses and beds, and support with laundry duties such as collecting, ironing, folding, and distributing clean items.
Skills and Attributes
You should be able to follow instructions, communicate effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team. A professional manner, attention to detail, and a positive attitude towards patients, visitors, and staff are essential. You must demonstrate honesty, integrity, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

Training and Expenses
You will be required to complete essential Health and Safety awareness training to support you in the role.
Hours and Commitment
Shifts are available Monday to Sunday from 9:00am – 1:00pm or 3:00pm – 7:00pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one 4-hour shift per week.
Additional Requirements
Volunteers must dress appropriately, wearing black trousers or a skirt with closed shoes. Long hair must be tied back, and strong scented products should be avoided. A volunteer badge must be worn at all times.
