About the Role
Father Hudson's Caritas supports older people in the community through its Young at Heart Social Groups, helping to reduce isolation and loneliness. The organisation has achieved the GOLD Volunteer Quality Standard Award through VAST, recognising its commitment to high-quality volunteering. A range of opportunities are available across Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
What You'll Do
There are several roles available, including Social Group Front of House volunteer, Kitchen Assistant, Face-to-Face or Telephone Befriending volunteer, Caretaker, Treasurer, Older Person’s volunteer and Social Group Lead volunteer. Depending on the role, you may support group activities, assist with refreshments, provide companionship, help with practical tasks or support the running of sessions and services.
Skills and Attributes
You should have a positive attitude and a genuine interest in supporting older people. A respectful and supportive approach is important, along with the ability to value individuals’ experiences and perspectives. Reliability and a willingness to follow policies, including safeguarding and confidentiality, are essential.

Training and Support
Volunteers will receive an induction and role-related training, along with ongoing support, advice and guidance. A DBS check will be required where appropriate.
Commitment
Opportunities are available across different roles and locations with varying time commitments. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over, and travel expenses can be reimbursed.
