Volunteer Opportunities

Our Volunteer befrienders help improve the quality of life for older people who are socially isolated and may feel lonely. Our befrienders are introduced to a member with the purpose of them spending an hour or two each visit to bring friendship, company, and a chance to chat. As part of the visit there may be a practical purpose, such as reading a newspaper to a visually impaired person, or accompanying the service user shopping or include a recreational activity. The aim of our befriending services are to support and encourage the member to access services and facilities within the community they live in. Skills and qualities you'll need:Good listening skills,Patience, empathy and understanding of the needs of older people,Reliable and punctual,Willing to engage with training and development,Maintain confidentiality,Be able to commit to six months, and spend 1-2 hours with an older person each visit either weekly or fortnightly.
