How partnerships and collaborations with other organisations can build an environment in which volunteers can thrive.

As part of VAST’s commitment to support individuals from marginalised groups whilst also building on existing relationships VAST hosted a ‘Halloween Party’ in partnership with Changes.

The aim of the day was to support individuals to build skills, support with mental wellbeing as well as increasing social networks.

The event was a tremendous success with 32 people in attendance, with most taking the opportunity dress up in fancy dress or painting their face in a spooky style.

During the event everyone enjoyed a presentation of volunteering past, which gave an overview of volunteering from medieval times to present day, with a few spooky stories thrown in too!

The group discussed the misconceptions around volunteering, such as ‘volunteering is boring’ and wrote down their thoughts on Halloween ‘faux gravestones.’ We then discussed their thoughts…revealing the ‘truth.’

The group then designed a spooky Halloween lantern as a symbol of their promise to volunteer in some capacity over the next year.

Lots of beautiful lanterns were made with everyone supporting each other with their wonderful creations.

Everyone then made a pledge as a symbol of their promise to volunteer in some capacity over the next year.

Lots of lovely feedback was received from participants with everyone stating that they would like more events of this sort, one participant commented they particularly loved dispelling the myths around volunteering and actively participating as well as socialising with others

…Here’s to a great future relationship with Changes!
