Tesco Community Fund update – Schools Focus

As you may have spotted, last week Tesco re-launched their funding scheme and going forward they will be awarding more grant money to schools with a focus on healthy eating and lifestyle improvement. They are still using the customer vote (blue token) system to award grants, but now every three months when Tesco select three applications to go into the store votes two will be schools and one will be an ‘other’ charity or not-for-profit organisation. Everything else about the funding remains the same (the amount of funding awarded is still 1st place 1500, 2nd 1000, 3rd 500, and the process of applying remains online here. 

In the West Midlands applications from schools have not historically been particularly high so we are focusing our attention on encouraging more schools to apply for this funding. I would be very grateful if you could help us promote this funding to any schools (or PTAs) in your area. I have attached an info & tips sheet that we have created specifically for schools.

We are, of course, still available to support other charities and not for profit organisations to apply for the funding. However, given the school focus, we do need to make them aware that they will be waiting longer to get selected for a grant. We would recommend that any ‘other’ group that are considering applying (or have already applied) for Tesco funding speak to the Community Champion or another member of store staff at their local store, as a colleague nomination will give them priority to be selected into the ‘other’ slot in the voting booth.
