Stoke-on-Trent City Council needs your help in developing a Local Plan

City Council is in the process of developing a Local Plan. As part of this they’re carrying out a ‘call for sites’ and inviting submissions from landowners to identify sites for future development.

The Local Plan is a statutory document which sets out future housebuilding and investment sites until 2040. It will guide decisions on future development proposals for the city on everything from housing and roads to shops, businesses and schools, while addressing the needs and opportunities of the area.

As part of the development of the Local Plan, we need to carry out a Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) to help us collate details of all available land in the city – and this is where you come in.

The Council is asking land owners, residents and businesses to come forward with any relevant information to help us assess which sites are available for development and whether or not they can, and should, be considered in the final Local Plan. This includes existing sites which we are already aware of and new sites which may not have already been considered through previous SHELAA assessments.

This extremely important piece of work will help us to develop a positive vision for the future of Stoke-on-Trent, and we would encourage you to proactively engage with us throughout this process to ensure we can come up with a sound plan which reflects our new priorities for Stoke-on-Trent and also meets the needs of local people and businesses.
