VCSE Sector Salary Benchmarking in Stoke-on-Trent

We know it can be challenging when thinking about recruiting for new roles, budgeting for roles in funding bids or conducting salary reviews for current teams. We also know that the increase in the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) will have created further challenges for the VCSE sector.

There are national tools and resources out there which can help but, after listening to our members, we knew it would be helpful to have a picture of the salaries of typical sector roles in Stoke-on-Trent. We therefore created a simple survey to capture this data across the city and asked organisations from across Stoke-on-Trent to complete the survey to make sure it was as representative as possible of the range of organisations based here.

The survey followed one completed in 2023 which allowed us to complete this report to provide a comparison on changes within the sector over the last twelve months. In addition to the questions included in the 2023 survey, this year we also added a short section to help us better understand the impact of the increase in National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) on local VCSE sector organisations.

Example of data from this latest report.

The form was completed anonymously, but collectively it enabled us to gather a picture of the salaries of VCSE sector employees across the city which can provide a helpful resource enabling benchmarking. The survey asked for some initial information about organisation size, which helped us to analyse and understand the range of salaries for the various roles.
