Groundwork Energy Audits to Support VCSE Organisations with Sustainability Goals

Groundwork West Midlands are offering two levels of energy and sustainability support to small businesses and VCSE organisations across Stoke-on-Trent.

Sustainable Ventures

Groundwork is pleased to announce the ‘Sustainable Ventures’ project which provides free support to businesses and community organisations in Stoke-on-Trent who are keen on stepping up to the sustainability challenge.

The project aims to inform organisations on the most viable solutions available to them, exploring how energy audits, training, and actionable decarbonisation plans can help make positive steps towards a greener future.

The Sustainable Ventures project offers a number of sustainability support services, including:

Energy audit

Every organisation has a unique set of energy demands and usage patterns. Conducting an ‘on-site’ energy audit tailors the energy-saving strategies to the specific needs of each organisation, making them more effective, relevant and achievable.

Energy audits involve assessing an organisations energy consumption patterns by identifying areas of wastage and inefficiency. By pinpointing energy-saving opportunities, organisations can achieve substantial cost reductions and reduce their carbon footprint simultaneously.

Decarbonisation plans

Decarbonisation plans are strategic roadmaps that guide organisations towards long-term sustainability.

Plans outline a series of steps to reduce carbon emissions over time, which includes adopting renewable energy sources, transitioning to low-carbon technologies, and optimising supply chain operations.

By committing to decarbonisation, organisations position themselves as ESG responsible, attracting environmentally conscious customers and investors.

Free sustainability events

With support from Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, Groundwork will be hosting events throughout the year where they will share success stories, provide training, and facilitate networking opportunities.

Keep an eye on their website here for more information on events and training.

VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme

Groundwork’s VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme will help voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations (VCSEs) across England to deliver more efficient services for people and communities by saving money on their energy bills.

Use Groundwork’s eligibility checker to see if you’re eligible to apply for the cost and delivery of an Independent Energy Assessment (IEA) or a Capital Grant. If you’re successful, they’ll match you up with an independent energy assessor who will work with you to assess your building and help identify energy-saving opportunities.

An IEA is a comprehensive evaluation of your building’s energy usage, efficiency and potential for energy savings, conducted by a qualified and experienced independent energy assessor.

With a satisfactory IEA, and provided you meet the wider eligibility criteria, your organisation may also apply for a Capital Grant. Capital Grants of between £2,000 and £150,000 can be used to install capital energy efficiency measures, identified in your IEA, to reduce your building’s energy costs and support the delivery of your frontline services.

Check if you’re eligible for an Independent Energy Assessment or Capital Grant or visit the Programme Guidance and Frequently Asked Questions information on Groundwork’s website.
