Sometimes, people with severe learning disabilities can behave in ways that challenge their caregivers and supporters, if their needs aren’t being met or they may be feeling frustrated. Challenging behaviour can be very distressing for people with learning disabilities and their families and carers too.
In this webinar, family carer and co-trainer for the Challenging Behaviour Foundation, Dawn Rooke, will share her experiences and strategies for coping with behaviour that challenges.
Dawn Rooke, is mum to two adults with a learning disability and autism and was diagnosed as autistic herself at the age of 51. She has lots of lived and professional experience. Dawn is also a facilitator for the ‘Managing Anger’ course developed by the National Autistic Society, and a member of the team delivering the ‘Positive Caring’ programme in Gloucestershire.
In the webinar, Dawn will also talk about how the Challenging Behaviour Foundation (CBF) helps families to understand the reasons behind challenging behaviour and how to respond. She will explain how the Family Support Team works and highlight online resources available to family carers.
The Challenging Behaviour Foundation is the only UK charity specifically focused on the needs of children and adults with severe learning disabilities whose behaviour challenges, and their families.
