Information from Stoke-on-Trent City Council
Help us celebrate 100 years of strength, kindness and creativity as a city!

Next year will be 100 years since Stoke-on-Trent was elevated to city status by King George V during a visit to Stoke-on-Trent on 5th June 1925. We are thrilled to invite you to be a part of this momentous occasion as we celebrate 100 years of Stoke-on-Trent!
This centenary is not just a milestone; it’s an opportunity for our vibrant community to come together, reflect on our rich history, and look forward to a bright future.
Throughout the year City Council will be hosting a number of events with partners but they’re really encouraging the local voluntary sector to host your own events too.
We all want to see events that highlight the unique culture, history, and spirit of our city.
Here are some ideas to inspire your celebrations:
- Community Festivals: Host a day of music, food, and activities that celebrate our diverse communities.
- Community Sports events: Host a community football match, tennis tournament in your local park, charity rounders game, indoor bowls match or sports day of your choice.
- Community Clean Up Sessions: Come together as a community to clear your local area with organised litter picks, clean up local signs and street furniture, or arrange a community gardening event. Why not think about turning shared alleyways into a community space for you and your neighbours to enjoy?
- Community Meals: Sharing food is a great way of bringing people together so why not host a community meal in a local venue?
- Street Parties: Hosting a street party the perfect way to get together with your neighbours to celebrate! Why not go casual with a picnic in your local park!
- Community Art Project: Create a mural of art from local people or run a community photography competition.
The new dedicated Centenary website provides advice on planning your event with guidance on health and safety, promotion and possible funding opportunities to ensure your event is a success.
VAST’s 2025 training programme will include training on planning community events where we’ll explain what you need to know about the legal side of planning events so that you can start to discuss these things and have the right conversations early in the planning process.
You’ll also get some advice and guidance on how to plan your events to meet your aims and objectives, to attract the right audiences, and manage staff and volunteers effectively.
Keep an eye on our training and events calendar to book your place.
