A VAST Volunteering Case Study

Awesome Ange!

“It’s truly been an amazing experience”

Angela Gamble began her volunteering journey in October 2024. After Meeting with Project Support Officer Emma, it was clear that she would be a valuable addition to Father Hudson’s Group.

Ange’s first visit to the Talke Village Hall Young at Heart Social Group left a lasting impression. She immediately began helping with the necessary task in any social group of making the tea, Showing Ange’s Caring and resourceful nature. Her ability to think efficiently made her stand out from the start.

With a background in providing housing and support services for fourteen years, Ange brought a wealth of experience in helping others. Her creativity shines through in the activities, games, quizzes, and bingo sessions she organises for the group. Ange’s enthusiasm and genuine passion for helping others are evident in all she does.

When asked why she chose to volunteer, Ange shared that it gave her the opportunity to meet new people, get out of the house, and help others. Volunteering provides her with a sense of purpose and has had a positive impact on her mental health. Having lost her husband a few years ago, Ange faced challenges with grief, loneliness, and her own mental health. However, through volunteering, she has found new friendships and a supportive community, which has contributed to her well-being.

“I really look forward to volunteering each session; I wish it was on every week”

She continues to feel supported by the team, and her enthusiasm for volunteering is clear. In addition to her role with Young at Heart, Ange enjoys arts and crafts, nail art, book folding, cooking, and baking. She even holds a food hygiene certificate and recently made a homemade minestrone soup that was well-received by the group.

“I attend the group every fortnight and cover at other groups, which has given me the chance to connect with so many wonderful people. I really gelled with everyone; I feel accepted and able to be myself here.”

“It’s a space where I can truly be who I am. People often say that they’ve heard a lot about me, and I take that as such a compliment – it means I’ve made an impact, and that’s something I really value.”

“My goal is to eventually run the group I’m at, and I can’t wait to continue growing with Father Hudson’s.”

Ange’s journey is a testament to the power of volunteering not only in helping others but also in developing her own personal growth and healing. Her story illustrates the deep connections formed through acts of kindness and the positive impact volunteering can have on both the individual and the community. Thank you Ange!!
