Description:

Harecastle Tunnel
Join the Canal & River Trust and play a vital role in supporting the safe and smooth operation of one of the UK’s most iconic waterways.


About the Role
As a Tunnel Support Volunteer at Harecastle Tunnel, you will actively assist with the management of tunnel operations, ensuring the safe passage of boats and providing a welcoming experience for all visitors.


Your responsibilities will include

Delivering a set safety briefing to all boaters before they enter the tunnel
Liaising with the tunnel keeper at the opposite portal
Monitoring boat passages through the tunnel
Responding appropriately to any incidents that may arise
Welcoming and engaging with visitors, walkers, cyclists, and drivers
Promoting the work and benefits of the Canal & River Trust
Helping to maintain the tunnel area and surroundings

 

Who We’re Looking For
This role is ideal for individuals who:

Enjoy working outdoors
Have a friendly, approachable manner
Are enthusiastic and willing to learn
Want to make a difference by supporting the waterways

You must be 18 years or over, and shifts are available 7 days a week.
