Supported by: Volunteer Befriending Lead and/or Volunteer Officer
Time commitment: Minimum 2 hours per week (flexible)
Duration: Minimum 12 weeks
About Us
The Honeycomb Group brings together four specialist brands — Staffs Housing, Glow, Concrete, and Revival — delivering customer-led support across local communities. We work with individuals who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness due to factors such as disability, low confidence, or limited family connections.
Befriending plays a vital role in improving wellbeing by offering companionship, encouragement, and support to help people reconnect with their community.
About the Role
As a Volunteer Befriender, you will provide regular face-to-face companionship and social support to individuals who may feel isolated or lonely. By building a consistent, friendly relationship, you will help improve wellbeing, increase confidence, and support community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Build supportive, friendly relationships with individuals
Spend regular time engaging in conversation or shared activities
Provide encouragement and emotional support
Help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness
Encourage participation in community or social activities where appropriate
Keep in touch with the Volunteer Befriending Lead regarding progress or concerns
Follow organisational policies, including safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection (training provided)
We’re Looking For People Who Are
Friendly, empathetic, and patient
Good communicators with strong listening skills
Non-judgemental and respectful of diverse backgrounds
Reliable and able to commit to regular visits
Understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable or isolated individuals
Minimum age: 18
Training and Support
Full induction and role-specific training (including safeguarding, confidentiality, and boundaries)
Ongoing support and supervision from the Volunteer Officer
