It Takes a Village Community Garden
Festival Park
The It Takes a Village Community Garden is a vibrant, community‑led project creating a sustainable green space that supports Caribbean seniors and the wider community. Rooted in over 20 years of Caribbean allotment heritage, the garden celebrates culture, supports disadvantaged groups, and builds strong community connections.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help design, grow, and manage this expanding community garden. Whether you enjoy hands‑on gardening, supporting people, or helping behind the scenes, there’s a role for you.

 

What You Can Get Involved In
Volunteers can choose activities that suit their interests and skills, including:
Supporting Caribbean Seniors

Assisting seniors with their allotments
Celebrating cultural heritage
Encouraging connections between generations

 

Gardening Tasks

Weeding, planting, pruning, and harvesting
Composting and seasonal garden maintenance

 

Creative & Structural Work

Designing garden plots
Building raised beds and garden structures
Setting up composting areas

 

Volunteer Management (Optional)

Coordinating volunteers
Managing schedules
Supporting inclusive participation

 

Community Engagement

Hosting workshops and group visits
Welcoming visitors
Working closely with the Caribbean community to create an inclusive space


Skills & Experience
No experience is required. We welcome volunteers who have:

A passion for gardening or nature
An interest in learning horticulture skills
Carpentry or building skills (helpful but optional)
Organisational or people‑management skills (for leadership roles)
Flexibility to work independently or as part of a team


When Can You Volunteer?

Every Thursday: 10:00am – 1:30pm at Festival Park
Remote volunteering opportunities are also available for:
