Charity Shop Assistant
Dougie Mac Hospice
Who are Dougie Mac?
Dougie Mac is an all‑age hospice providing care and support to adults, young adults, and children living with life‑limiting illnesses across Stoke‑on‑Trent, North Staffordshire, and surrounding villages. We also support their families and carers.
Our shops play a vital role in raising the income needed to fund these essential care services — and we couldn’t do it without our volunteers.
With 21 shops across the local area, there’s always a convenient location nearby.

What You’ll Be Doing

Maintaining a high standard of presentation on the shop floor
Serving customers and operating the till
Packaging purchases
Signing up supporters to the Gift Aid scheme
Displaying and merchandising stock
Providing excellent customer service
Sorting donations (clothing, accessories, and bric‑a‑brac)
Preparing items for sale (sizing, hanging, pricing)
Recycling items that are unsuitable for sale


What You’ll Need

Friendly, reliable, and trustworthy
Enjoy working with people
Willingness to learn new skills

No formal qualifications or previous experience are required — customer service and retail skills can be developed in the role.

 

What to Wear

Smart, sensible clothing and appropriate footwear
A volunteer badge (provided) must be worn at all times


Time Commitment

A typical shift is 3–4 hours
Flexible within shop opening hours


Additional Information

Reporting to the Community Shop Manager
Health & Safety awareness training is required
