Volunteer with Dougie Mac – Make a Difference in Your Community
Who are Dougie Mac?
Dougie Mac is an all-age hospice providing care and support to adults, young adults and children living with a life-limiting illness across Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages. We also provide wrap-around support for families and carers.
Our services are only possible thanks to our dedicated volunteers and the vital income raised through our network of charity shops.
With 21 shops across the local area, there’s always a Dougie Mac shop nearby.

What Will I Be Doing?
As a Retail Volunteer, you may help with:

Maintaining a high standard of presentation on the shop floor
Providing excellent customer service
Operating the till and packaging purchases
Signing up supporters to our Gift Aid scheme
Displaying and merchandising stock
Sorting donations of bric-a-brac, clothing and accessories
Preparing items for sale (sizing, hanging and pricing)
Recycling items that are unsuitable for sale


Who Will Be My Line Manager?
You will be supported by the Community Shop Manager.

What Skills Do I Need?
No formal qualifications or previous experience are required. We’re looking for volunteers who are:

Reliable and trustworthy
Friendly and approachable
Comfortable working with people

Customer service, cash handling and till operation skills can all be developed during your time with us.
Please note: all volunteers must complete essential Health and Safety awareness training.

What Will I Need to Wear?

A Dougie Mac volunteer badge (provided)
Smart, sensible clothing and footwear appropriate to the role


Time Commitment
We ask for a 3–4 hour shift during shop opening hours, with flexibility where possible.
