Area of interest: Supporting Children & Young People
Number of Volunteers required: 10
Description:We create readers because when a child becomes a reader, they get the very best chance in life, and every child deserves that. At Coram Beanstalk we believe that life is better when everyone can read well and express themselves with confidence. That's why we recruit, train and support volunteers to work with primary aged children to help them find a love of reading. Our trained volunteers are at the heart of what we do. Each week they deliver fun, interactive, reading experiences. They provide one to one support to children, who are behind, giving them the help and encouragement they need to catch up - to switch onto reading, learn to read and become readers for life. Our reading helpers give children a chance to shine... sharing, talking and having fun with books to help them see the point of reading. Their commitment and dedication helps to bring forth a new generation of readers with the confidence they need to succeed in life. We are Coram Beanstalk. We create readers. Join us! Our volunteers work one-to-one with children who would benefit from dedicated time with an adult who can help them with their reading and communication skills. You will be working in a local primary school a few hours a week and we provide training and support throughout your role as a volunteer. Are you able to:Be open to learning and delivering our approach to help children become readers?Give your ongoing commitment and dedication to the charity and the children we support? Travel to one of our partner primary schools for a few hours each week during their afternoon sessions? Use a PC/laptop/tablet to access our interactive, live training sessions via Zoom?Use email to receive and respond to communications from us? "This is one of the highlights of my week, I enjoy interacting with the pupils and seeing them get excited by books we read together. They enjoy picking new books each week and their reading has steadily improved and become more expressive." Coram Beanstalk Volunteer
