Bags of Help is Tesco’s local community grant scheme where the money raised from the carrier bag charge in Tesco stores is being used to fund thousands of community projects across the UK. The projects must meet the criteria of bringing benefits to the community. This can include: purchasing items, improvements to a community building, developing an outdoor space, running a community event or activity etc.
Any constituted group or organisation can apply including: schools, councils, charities, friends of groups, sports clubs and other not for profit organisations. In each area of the country, 3 projects will be selected every three month to go to in-store vote. The public (in the form of Tesco shoppers) get to vote on which of the three projects they like best. The winning project gets up to £2000, the next project £1000 and the final one £500.
Groundwork staff are available to support applications; for example I could give you advice on what to apply for, answer any questions about what to include on the form, or give feedback on a draft application. If you need any further information please don’t hesitate to contact us.
