Stoke-on-Trent prepares to celebrate His Majesty’s Coronation

Posted on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent City Council:

As the nation is getting ready to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, Stoke-on-Trent City Council is planning events and waiving road closure fees for residents wishing to hold street parties.

To celebrate His Majesty’s Coronation on Saturday 6 May at Westminster Abbey, residents will be given an extra bank holiday on Monday 8 May 2023 (this is in addition to Monday 1 May 2023).

Residents who wish to hold a Coronation celebration are invited to come together to celebrate, with the city council waiving the usual road closure fees providing the event is free to attend.

The city will also be taking part in national events including:

The Coronation Big Lunch – Sunday 7 May

This will be a great opportunity for local people and organisations to come together and hold a community get-together. Residents are invited to hold events or picnics in our parks, community centres and other communal venues.

The Big Help Out – Monday 8 May

Residents and organisations are encouraged to get involved with helping out their local community.  It would be great if the fantastic community and voluntary organisations in our city organised a project for local people to join.  The city council are working with VAST to promote the volunteering opportunities across the city. Residents can find more information on Coronation celebrations, including how to organise and register their own events at www.stoke.gov.uk/coronation. Further events will be planned over the coming weeks and the page will be updated regularly.
