Due to the cautious restoration of the national Enter and View Programme, Healthwatch Stoke-on-Trent undertook a virtual visit to Shared Lives Stoke. After effective cooperation and mutual planning with the team at Shared Lives Stoke, a Healthwatch Stoke-on-Trent team of Officers conducted an announced virtual visit to Shared Lives Stoke between 19 July 2021 and 23 July 2021.

The virtual visit was designed to gain insight into the effectiveness of Shared Lives Stoke’s service delivery, with the aim of identifying what works well, not so well and what could be improved to enhance the quality of service delivery. To ensure our visit was meaningful and reliable, we had conversations with service users, Shared Lives Stoke Carers, relatives, management, and supporting health professionals.

All engagements with participants were done remotely with no face-to-face interaction. Moreover, all information was shared over phone calls or survey questionnaires. Participants had the opportunity to input anonymous feedback and shed light on their own personal experiences.

18 individuals participated and shared personal viewpoints during the visit. The 18 responses were shaped around the following 5 quality measures: COVID-19 Safety, Effectiveness of Care, Communication, Leadership and Management, and Adaption and Responsiveness.

In summary, the report highlights the positive service delivery and treatment and care provided, alongside the many pleasing feedback experiences shared. Like with all services, there are some acknowledged areas for development. All of which are based upon participant viewpoints and can be found within the report under the recommendations analysis. The service providers’ comments are tied in with the recommendations to spotlight their thoughts and action plans.
