Loan sharks: Spotting the red flags, protecting our communities, making a difference
VAST, in partnership with the England Illegal Money Lending Team, is pleased to offer this workshop to voluntary sector organisations in Stoke-on-Trent.
Loan sharks are a hidden threat, preying on the most vulnerable in our communities. Learn how to help safeguard yourself and those your organisation supports.
The session, led by Nadeem Mahammed, LIAISE Officer, covers:
- Spotting the Red Flags – Learn the warning signs of predatory lending. Recognise the tactics loan sharks use to trap their victims.
- Protecting Our Community – Understand how these illegal lenders operate and the impact they have on people’s lives, including health and wellbeing. Equip yourself with the knowledge to protect friends, family, and neighbours.
- Making a Difference – Get trained on how to refer victims to our support team effectively. Learn the steps to take if you suspect someone is being targeted by a loan shark.
If there is an issue you need support with, there will also be an opportunity to seek advice from Nadeem after the session.
