Draft Local Plan Consultation

In February 2020, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council agreed to produce the Joint Local Plan in two parts; Part One Strategy and Policies and Part Two Site Allocations. There were due to be two consultations this year, with Part One being subject to consultation in April/May 2020 and Part Two in the Autumn of this year.

It is with regret that the consultation for Part One of the Plan must now be postponed due to the impact of the restrictions relating to COVID-19.  It is not possible to carry out the consultation in a way which would have met the Council’s obligations set out in the Joint Statement of Community Involvement. The Coronavirus pandemic is unprecedented and is affecting all aspects of society and business.

Work will continue on the Draft Joint Local Plan aiming to minimise any potential delay to the overall plan timetable. As such, it is proposed that both parts of the Draft Plan will be subject to one six-week public consultation in the Autumn.

Joint Statement of Community Involvement

Both councils will review their Joint Statement of Community Involvement where we will ensure that we are more resilient in times of difficulty, whilst still maintaining our duty to consult and high standards for publicising projects and proposals relating to the planning service. Hopefully, this will ultimately prevent the need to postpone consultations in the future.  We will consult on this in the coming months.

Call for Sites

We continue to invite submissions for a wide range of additional potential sites and uses across both areas, including housing, employment, retail, leisure, open space, community facilities and sites for gypsy and travellers.

Please note that in order for potential housing sites to be included in our evidence base they need to be capable of delivering five or more dwellings and potential commercial sites must be a minimum of 0.25 ha (0.62 acres).

For further information on the call for sites please visit the website https://www.newcastle-staffs.gov.uk/all-services/planning/planning-policy/joint-local-plan/call-sites. Please ensure that any submissions are made on the call for sites response form.
